Directions

From Washington DC

If there is no traffic on 95 (and there always is), the 95 route from the Pentagon can get you to our home in 2.5 hours.  Take 95 South to Exit 126 onto 17.  Turn right at the bottom of the exit – Rte 1 and 17 run together for about 1 mile, but you will want to take a left to stay on 17 (you will see a Wawa on the southwest corner of the intersection where you should turn).  Take 17 all the way through Tappahanock – when you are just leaving Tappahanock, you will have to take a left to stay on 17.  Take 17 about 20 miles, and take a left onto 33 toward Saluda.  Take 33 about 10 miles, and make a left on 3, following signs for Kilmarnock.  In about 4 miles, you will cross the bridge over the Rappahanock into White Stone.  At the first and only traffic light in town, take a right onto Chesapeake Drive – follow this about 7 miles toward Windmill Point, and take a left onto Brightwaters Drive.  Take your first left off onto Sandpiper Lane, which is essentially a driveway shared between us and our neighbor, and bear right when you come to the fork.

If 95 is expected to be congested, find your way to 210 in Md, cut left onto 228 to get to 301, make a right and take 301 across the Potomac, and head south on 3 until you get to White Stone, making a left on Chesapeake Drive at the only light.  Follow directions above thereafter.  From the Pentagon, this route takes about 3 hours.  It can be somewhat congested getting to 228, but thereafter it is usually smooth, although there are many lights on 301.

From Richmond:

Distance is approximately 75 miles.  Take I-64 East to exit 220, and merge onto VA-33 East.  Take VA-33 19.5 miles, make a left onto US-17 N and VA-33 East, proceed 2.2 miles and take a slight right onto US-17 Business N/VA-33 East, go 0.8 miles and take a right onto VA-33 East.  Take 33 seven miles and turn left at VA-3 W.  Follow above directions from there.
